Hello, I’m Ian. Some people call me Ina. Online I’m normally tiedyeina. I’m a geek. I’m a jazzophile. I like words, cooking, maths, music and watersports. I look a bit like this –>
When I sent that picture to the people I’d be working with in New York, they didn’t know if I was a boy or a girl. I’m a boy. Ian is a boy’s name. Ina is not. I can see where the confusion seeped in.
I recently moved to New York from London (though I’m originally from Wales). This is a blog about my having moved to New York from London. I first lived in downtown Manhattan with Rob. He’s also also a geek. He moved back to London from New York. I don’t know why. Now I live with two pretty girls in Astoria. I have to say they’re pretty, it was part of the moving-in agreement. But, they are pretty. And we live in Astoria.
I’m going to be doing maths & computery research in New York. You probably think that sounds really cool. You’re right. Remember that bit in Terminator where Skynet takes over the world and kills all humans? Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’ll be doing. Probably.
If you’re reading this from London, I recommend moving to New York.
If you’re reading this from New York, please leave the name of your favourite bar/venue/place in the comments section.
I normally end blog posts or emails or postcards or ‘about me’ sections with kisses. Like this:

I hate you so much I’ve got my scrolling rss feed set up. Updates please.
You should set up your own religion – geek orthodoxy
You should try out Stone St. in the financial district if you haven’t already. All the buildings there are historic and the street itself is still made out of cobblestone still today. There’s a bunch of great bars and restaurants. My favorite is Adrienne’s pizza bar but I’ve heard great things about all of them! Weather permitting they have people eat out on the street, so it may be something to save for the spring.
Cheers man for letting me use the tweet.
I did SMOKE, Kitano and Smalls while i was over in the company of saxophinist Mike DiRubbo. Amazing. especially the atmosphere and the tunes. Never forget it. Good luck in NYC. I’ll be back, loved it.
